Obituary of Pete Durnford

On Sunday, March 28, 2021 our lives were forever changed and our hearts were broken when our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Peter “Pete” Durnford passed away suddenly at Sir Thomas Rodderick Hospital in Stephenville at the age of 68 years with his loving family by his side. Born in McCallum, Pete was the son of the late Samuel and Caroline (nee Chapman) Durnford. Pete leaves to mourn with many fond and loving memories his wife, Phoebe (nee Hodder) of 48 years, son, Corwin (Dinah) Durnford, Pasadena, daughters, Yvonne (Jimmy) Lane, Port aux Basques and Pamela Durnford (Robert Martin), Pasadena, his pride and joy grandchildren, Paige, Connor, Caleb, Casey, Gabrielle and Travis, great grandchildren, Faith, Damien, Abel,Jayden and Scotia, sisters, Bessie (George) Simms, Queena (Edward) Feaver, both of Hermitage and Judy Piercey, St. John’s, sister and brother-in-laws, Lillian (Hartland) Wellman, Browns Arm, Edith (Roy) Loveless, Seal Cove, Susanna Northcott, Shirley Seymour, Louise Keeping (Israel Seymour), Jim (Zenith) Hodder, Margaree, Ray (Eileen) Hodder, Port aux Basques, and Norma Lilly (Wilson Billard and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends, and his “Garage Buddies”.
Pete was predeceased by his son Bruce, grandson Wyatt, brothers, Wallace, Samuel, John and Hayward, brothers-in-law,John Matt Piercey, Samuel Northcott, Terrance Keeping, Garfield Seymour, Eric Lilly, and sister-in-law Marion Hodder.
The family will be receiving family and friends on Tuesday, March 30th from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 -9:00 p.m. at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques. In keeping with Pete’s wishes, cremation will follow and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 1st at 11:00 a.m. from St. Augustine’s Church in Margaree with Rev. Nathan Cutler officiating. Due to Covid 19 regulations the funeral service will invite only. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
