Obituary of Shirley Ryan

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Shirley Ryan on Wednesday, December 28 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville with her loving family by her side at the age of 89. Born in New Waterford she was the daughter of the late John Kelly and Ellen (John Doyle).
Shirley leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 68 years, Edward Ryan, children, Juanita (Max) Hardy, Lynn Strickland (Lew Short), Nancy Barclay, Duane (Erin), Helen Jane (Gene) and Carmine (Shelly), her grandchildren, Max (Meg), Carlee (Chris), Jessica (Chris), Kalinda, Chantel, Travis (Kayla), Rachel (Justice), Douglas (Morgan) and Kelly, great grandchildren, Wilder, Chloe, Callie, Miles, Cole, Layla and Natalie.
Shirley was an exceptional mom, sister, wife,aunt and friend. While she had 7 biological children, she also had two more close to her heart, Charlie Barry and David Day.
She had the biggest heart, loved to entertain, and had a wicked sense of humor. Shirley was everyone's rock. She will be dearly missed by her family as well as a large circle of life long friends.
She will never be forgotten by sisters, Loretta McNeil and Florence Richardson, her sisters and brothers-in-laws, Whilemina Barry, Agnes Penney, Lucille AuCoin, Bridget (Archie) MacIsaac and Joachim (Marcelle) Ryan, large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her son, Douglas Ryan, brother, James Kelly, brothers-in-laws, Wilfred, Ambrose and Mike Ryan, James McNeil and Bud Richardson.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, December 30th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 31st at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gerard Patry officiating. Interment to follow at Mount St. Thomas Cemetery, Great Codroy. In memory of Shirley, flowers graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques, 695-7010.
