Obituary of Wallace Meade

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Wallace "Skipper" Meade announces his passing on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 79 with his loving family by his side. Born in Fox Roost , he was the son of the late George and Laura (nee Walters) Meade. Wallace leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Jessie (nee Smith) of 57 years, his daughters, Elaine (Bradley) Ingram, Darlene (Gerry ) Baird, Tracey Meade (Steve Walsh) and son, Wally (Amanda) Meade, his precious granddaughters, Jill Ingram, Myla Baird and Quinn Meade, brother, Harry Meade, sisters, Shirley (Hubert) Vautier and Lorna (Ralph) LaFosse, brothers and sister-in-laws, Clyde (Marie) Smith, Billy (Anne) Smith, Boyd (Lynn) Smith and Florence (Frank) Lilly, former employer and special friend, Richard Ballott, large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Wallace was predeceased by his mother and father in law, Susanna and Vaughn Smith and his furry friend, Willy
Wallace spent most of his life on the sea; he captained several fishing vessels, lastly the Wally & Sisters. When the fishery closed he returned to school and then captained several tug boats and coastal ferries.
Wallace has a passion for berry picking and music, especially the accordion. He was a kind, compassionate person with a great sense of humor and always ready with a joke or story. He loved his family very much and enjoyed a house full of company.
A special thank you is sent to Dr. Mottay and the ICU staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital for all their care in Wallace’s time of need.
The family will be receiving family and friends on Sunday, December 26 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques. Funeral service will take place on Monday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Augustine’s Church in Margaree, with Rev. John Billard officiating, by invite only due to Covid 19 restrictions. Please note that in accordance with provincial regulations, proof of Covid-19 vaccination and mask will be needed to enter for visitation and the funeral service. In keeping with Wallace’s wishes, cremation to follow and A Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Flowers graciously accepted or donations in memory of Wallace can be made to the family or charity of one’s choice.
