Jessie; Mom & Dad, and myself, send you our deep condolences on the death of Wallace. We are so glad that we were able to get together a couple of summers back, in Port de Grave. I remember back in 1966, when I was only 10, that all of us (family of 7) came to stay with you folks the night before we crossed on the ferry to the “mainland”. We arrived late but you opened up your place (& maybe Wallace’s mothers’ too?) and made us all comfortable.
Thinking of you all at this time.
Cathie Turner on behalf of Ike & Lorraine Smith

To say that I am saddened by the news of Wallace’s passing is an understatement. Wallace , our dedicated captain of the RJ Ballott, was the kindest, smartest, calmest, and most sincere skipper I have ever sailed with. He taught me so many things to look for navigating not only on our ocean but also through life. Just when I though things were going for the worst and I was ready to give up he always calmed me down and made me think, he was like a father to me and inspired me to keep going. We had many good times, we had laughs and at times we had to be serious to see the night through to keep the crew safe. He knew the weather and set sail always with the crews safety in mind, to return everyone home safe and sound. He taught me to persue my dream and continue on life’s vast oceans.
His famous words to me were “keep at it you will do alright, everything will work out”. He even helped stain my back patio while waiting for the tug to return to port.
Rest easy skipper god bless you, you will always be with me onboard to guide me.
Forever in my heart
Richard Ballott
