I was heartbroken to hear the news that my former hockey manger Jim passed away!
To say he was my former manger was an understatement. Jim was our teams EVERYTHING, we wouldn’t have been able to ice a team in JR, intermediate & senior without Jim and Lucy!
In 2001 when I won the Herder with Deer Lake I had the privilege of bring the Herder trophy home to PAB for a few days, the first stop I made was to Jim and Lucy’s. The look of Joy on their face I’ll never forget. I told Jim “I never would have won that trophy without his support over the years”
In 2012 he got inducted into th NL Hockey Hall of Fame which was an honour he was extremely proud and was well deserved.!!
I have told so many stories of Jim over the years to people who knew him and to people who didn’t know him and I will continue to do so for as long as I live!
My sincere condolences to the Hayward family from my family!!! I can’t tell you how much Jim and Lucy meant to me and all the boys who played on his teams. Jim was one of a kind and will never be matched.
Jim is now back with the love of his life Lucy and heavens hockey team has a new manager!
R.I.P Jim
Love Philip.

Hayward family! I am shocked and so very saddened of the passing of a dear friend and confidant. He lost 2 dear people in his life in a short time when he lost my old sweetheart Lucy and then devastated him again when Louis passed away suddenly. He always made time to stop and talk to me no matter where we too or what we were doing. He looked out to me like I was his own son. You will be missed my dear dear friend. The family will remain in my thoughts and prayers forever. R.I.P my friend, I have another angel above to watch over me as I know he always did.

I am so sorry for your loss and sad to hear of Jim’s passing. I always had fond memories of Jim when I played Jr. Hockey in PAB. He was a fine man with a big heart and he certainly gave me great memories that I still cherish to this day. They say a man can be measured for the things he has done for his community and his fellow man, will I believe Jim must be 10 ft tall. He will be missed by many family and friends.

To the Hayward Family
I’m so very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I got to know Jim through our involvement in the Port Aux Basques Minor Hockey Association and he was a good friend. Jim was mister everything to the Association during my time there. It didn’t matter what the chore he could always be counted on to do whatever was necessary to make sure everything went well. His first priority was always the kids. He will be sorely missed by his many friends. On behalf of myself and my wife Carrie please accept out heartfelt condolences.
