Obituary of Dorothy Cross

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Dorothy “Dot” Cross (nee Francis) announce her peaceful passing on August 14, 2024, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at the age of 85 with her loving family by her side. Born in Channel-Port aux Basques, Dot was the daughter of the late Philip and Rebecca Francis. With fond and loving memories, Dot leaves to mourn her daughter Lavina (Freeman) Morris and son William Jr., daughter-in-law Sylvia, sister-in-law Florence Francis, as well as the joys of her life, her grandchildren Erica (Donnie), Andrew, Adam, Aaron (Caitlin), Cody Greene and great-grandchildren, Ella, Asher, Hudson, and Rory; plus a large circle of family and friends, especially her good friend, Dorothy “Dort” Osmond, great friend and neighbour Martina Francis, and special nephew Kenny Francis. Dot was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Clarence (Theresa), Walter, Arthur (Nellie), Ossie, her sisters Margaret (Fred) Ongo and Regis (Harold) Rose and her sons Arthur and Baby Ronald. Dot was a hard-working woman who held many jobs throughout her lifetime including telephone operator, home care worker and domestic worker at Channel-Port aux Basques hospital. She was an exceptional seamstress and loved sewing, quilt-making, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed puzzle books, card games and bingo. Dot enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and close friends – who will miss her dearly. In keeping with Dot’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving visitors on Monday, August 19th from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street in Port aux Basques. The funeral service will take place on August 20th at 11:00am with Rev. Jane Allan officiating at St. James Anglican Church. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Oceanside Funeral Home.
