Obituary of Fred Keeping

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Fred Keeping announces his passing on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at age 82, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Burnt lslands, Fred was the son of the late Wilfred and Stella Mae (nee Munden) Keeping. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife of 60 years, Ada (nee Peddle) and their children, Olga (Don) Scott, Isle aux Morts, Debbie (Tom) DesJardins, Halifax, NS and Fred (Michelle) Keeping, Isle aux Mort, his pride and joy his grandchildren, Savannah (Chris) Wight, Sarah Keeping (Brandon Jeans) and Caliegh Keeping, great grandchildren, Lexi and Jaxon Wight, grand puppies, Riley & Max.
Fred also leaves to mourn his brothers and sisters, Willoughby, Dartmouth, Carl (Barbara), Chelsey (Susan) Keeping, both of Burnt Islands, Elizabeth (George) Barrett, Bishop Cove, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Betty and Carol Keeping, both of Burnt Islands, Rita (Robert Porter) Port de Grave and Leslie Peddle (Paula Marche) Labrador City, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and a large circle of friends.
Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Clifford and Wilfred Jr. Keeping, Burnt Islands, sister-in-law, Selina Keeping, Dartmouth, brother-in-law, Winston Peddle and mother and father in-law, Gordon and Phyllis Peddle, all of Bishop Cove.
Fred had a great love for the sea, his cabin in the valley, and gardening in the summertime. But his love for his family was never ending. His family was his world, and he enjoyed every moment he spent with them. Fred wore many hats. He was a husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend. But his poppy hat was his proudest hat. He treasured his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 25th, from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 26th at 2:00 p.m. all from Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street, Port aux Basques, with interment at a later date. Flowers graciously accepted or donations in memory of Fred may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Oceanside Funeral Home.
