Obituary of Roy Bagg

We are very sad to announce the passing of Roy Bagg on March 15, 2021 at the Halifax Infirmary at the age of 73. He was the son of the late George Henry Bagg and Melita Maude (Lefrense) Bagg (Isle aux Morts, NL). Roy is survived by his wife Rosalie (Janes) Bagg, his daughters, Amanda (Bagg) (Josh Winwood) and grand-daughter Aria Winwood, St. Catharines, ON and Dawn (Bagg) Holderney (Robert Nicholas) of Middle Sackville, NS. He is also survived by brothers George Baggs (Marie), Oakville, ON, (Dinah), Henry Baggs, Burnt Islands, NL and sister Augusta Foote, St. Catharines, ON. He is survived by his sister-in law Mary Viola (Janes) (Andy), St. Catharines, ON. Roy Janes (Jane), Fort Erie, ON, Sister-in-law Thlema Janes, St. Catharines, and sister-in-law Millie Janes, Mississauga, ON, Dinah Bagg, Kippens, NL He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. He was predeceased by sisters Jacqueline Bagg, June Bagg, Ellen Bagg, Beulah Walters, brother Launce Bagg and brother-in-law (John), Isle-aux Morts, NL and brother-in-law Nathan Foote (Gussie), St. Catharines, ON as well as sister-in-law Grace Baggs (Keeping), Burnt Islands, NL. Roy was predeceased by brother-in-laws Mark Janes, Richard (Dianne) Janes and Robert Janes. Roy was born in Isle aux Morts, Newfoundland and attended Legallais Memorial School. He worked on the lake boats and then moved to Mississauga, ON and married Rosalie Janes in 1971. He worked for Otis Elevators during construction of the CN Tower. Once laid off, he worked for the Canadian National Railroad and then moved back to St. John's, NL with wife Rosalie, and two daughters (Dawn and Amanda) in 1979. Roy returned to St. Catharines, ON in 1981 to make his living and raise his family. He worked for the City of St. Catharines for many years, starting out as a janitor at City Hall, then a roads worker and retired as a Night Shift foreman for the Roads Dept. Roy adored the culture and scenery of his hometown of Isle aux Morts and once retired moved back home with daughter Dawn in 2013. He moved again due to health issues in 2019 and lived with his daughter Dawn and son-in-law Robert in Nova Scotia for the last two years. He loved music, dancing, fishing and time spent in nature. Whether going for walks in the spring to look for signs of baby birds hatching at Happy Rolph's, taking his daughters fishing down at the Port Dalhousie Pier to picking berries for hours with the flies eating away at him. One time he found an injured seagull and brought it home and nursed it back to health. He loved his birds and he could stare at the ocean for hours and loved when 'there was a good sea on'. Roy was an avid coin collector, stamp collector and loved his new found hobby of diamond painting. He just loved his beads, in just 2 years he finished many diamond projects. Matter of fact, the last painting Roy was working on was of his beloved hockey team The Toronto Maple Leafs. He was thrilled to be able to spend a few years "back home" and enjoyed spending time with all his childhood friends and family. Roy was actively involved in the Isle aux Morts Good Samaritan's Club and rarely missed a Monday night game of bingo at the Lodge. Roy loved a good card game and he loved winning even more. He was also a part of a community comedy group called 'Da Koodens' and loved every minute of it. Roy loved dressing up and performing in live shows, he loved being the center of attention. Roy loved to bake and cook. You could always count on a good meal when visiting Roy, and his door was always open. He baked cakes and cookies and pies for all bake sales and loved to sell things at craft fairs. Roy absolutely adored life, he loved people, he loved animals, he loved his friends and family with the biggest of hearts and he had a smile for everyone he met. He had an energetic sense of humor and was always good for a laugh. He had a big smile and a contagious laugh. Loved by all who knew him. His family meant the world to him, especially his precious grand-daughter Aria whom Grampy loved with all his heart and thought the world of. His wife, Rosalie and his daughters, Amanda and Dawn, he cherished and always looked out for them. Sisters, Brothers, Cousins, Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews and Godchildren, so big of a family and he loved them all with the same huge heart. He had life long friends in Roger and Ethel Skinner and Abbot Harvey and he loved all his buddies. Thank you to all the medical staff at Halifax Infirmary, QEII Hospital, especially the staff in the 3IMCU department. The nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists and all others were truly amazing and your efforts were deeply appreciated. Cremation has taken place under the care of Donald K Walker Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of life at the Holy Spirit Anglican Church on July 15, 2023 at 1 pm, followed by internment at the Hillside Haven Cemetery in Isle aux Morts, followed by reception at the Good Samaritan’s 50 Plus Club in Isle aux Morts.
