Obituary of Hyacinth Aucoin

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hyacinth Walter Aucoin announces his passing on Saturday, October 29, 2022 surrounded by his family and close friends in his home in Coal Brook. A loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother, Hyacinth will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years Madonna (Gale) Aucoin, sons Andy (Marg) Aucoin of Coal Brook, Craig (Diane) Aucoin of Whitby, Ontario, Ronnie (Maggie) Aucoin of Aylesford, Nova Scotia, daughters Rosie Aucoin of Port Aux Basques, Tina (John Brennan) Aucoin of Corner Brook, grandchildren Andrea Aucoin of Corner Brook, Kristian Aucoin of Martensville,Saskatchewan, Connor (Brittany) Aucoin of Whitby, Ontario, Katie Aucoin of Whitby, Ontario, Kiana LaMarche of Corner Brook, Ben Aucoin and Kaley Aucoin of Port Aux Basques,Dawson Aucoin,Aylesford, Nova Scotia and great granddaughter Grier Aucoin of Whitby, Ontario. Also left to mourn is his sister Eileen (Aucoin) Wall, his loving care givers Sharon (Gale) St.Croix, Kathy (Salmon) Gale, close family friends Owen St. Croix, John Brennan, Cathy Lynn, Crystal Gale and many more extended family and friends. Hyacinth was predeceased by his brothers Harold, Raymond and Tim. Hyacinth, known as poppy or pop to those near and dear, was an avid outdoorsman. He loved the time he got to spend on the river and in the hills hunting and fishing. Being that time of year right now, he is likely sitting in the pirates den with Mike and Pat talking about past hunts and thinking about the big bull they are going to get tomorrow. While Poppy loved the outdoors, he loved his family more. Pop was first and foremost a dedicated family man and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren making memories. Donna and Hyacinth had 4 of their own children and fostered 70 children together through the years. One of those children they loved so much, they decided to keep her- That’s you Tina. While their house was always full, they were always parents for and had room for children within the community who could often be found there after school and on the weekends, providing everyone a welcoming home for whoever wanted to gather. Pop truly believed that if any of the children had an ache or a pain, that it would be instantly wiped away with a rambunctious rendition of Purple People Eater. Poppy did not finish school, but that does not mean he did not have a lot of knowledge to share. He knew that every plumbing emergency could be fixed by adding more hose clamps. He also knew that any precision carpentry work required a very sharp chainsaw. While later in his life pop couldn’t talk, he also knew a good boob squeeze was the perfect way to show he was appreciative to those who were caring for him. Poppy may never get his angel wings as he was not a fan of flying and did not like heights. We do know that his two caregivers Sharon and Kathy will certainly have their angel wings for the amount of time they spent caring for Poppy and making sure he was comfortable and loved until the very end. His loving wife Donna will definitely have her angel wings for the dedication she showed to poppy during their life together. For the last 16 years she has not left his side day or night. She made a promise to love him in sickness and in health, and she kept that promise until he took his last breath. Nan, Pop was so very lucky to have you. You have shown us all what true love looks like. In keeping with Poppy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a dedicated mass for him at Saint Sylvester’s Church in South Branch at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 1st. A burial and celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the Dementia or Alzheimer’s society in Hyacinth’s memory.
